Established Successful Coffee Shop Bookstore

Established September 2016, Zephyr Books & Coffee (ZBC) is an independent, family owned bookstore and coffee shop. It started small and has grown every year. At first we offered a few baked goods, some basic espresso drinks and used books. We listened to the customers and continued to build our menu and retail offerings. Our space was designed creatively in order to provide our customers with a memorable experience. This is why so many of our customers make ZBC a destination even when traveling from out of the area. We are open Mon – Saturday 7:30am – 5pm. We currently employ 10 part time staff including a kitchen manager representing apx 120 payroll hours per week and apx 40% cost of gross sales. Our employees have become one of our greatest assets. We continually receive positive feedback from customers about our well trained staff. In the past 2 years we have seen our customer base shift from mostly new customers to mostly returning customers (60%). This is great news and telegraphs that we have established a solid customer base and at the same time there are still ample opportunities to reach more people thru increased marketing efforts. We have access to most of our customers thru our merchant services data base as well as a solid social media presence. The pandemic of 2020 was understandably a difficult time. Despite that challenge we adapted and managed to remain profitable and have come out the other side with continuing increased sales and profit every week. Gross sales are up 13.5% the first quarter of 2021 over 2019, our highest sales year to date. Our reputation is well established and customer loyalty is strong. Growth & Expansion: There is plenty of room to grow and expand the products and services offered by ZBC from retail opportunities, special events, book clubs, storytime, menu options and marketing avenues.
